Gary Papa passed away on June 19th. This is the 11 o'clock broadcast of action news. While this wasn't the first action broadcast since his death (they had previously done a 5:00 & 6:00) this was the more organized into a tribute type broadcast.

  • Many ABC legends, whether on the local or national lever, have left us over the years. Gary being one of them, the others being WABC/KGO anchor Roger Grimsby, ABC World News anchors Peter Jennings, Frank Reynolds, and Max Robinson, WABC anchor Bill Beutel, WABC reporter Roger Sharp, Three's Company lead actor John Ritter...and that's just a few. Godspeed to all of the departed ABC legends.

  • gary papa was the best sportscaster philadelphia ever has had or will ever had.

rip gary action news is not the same without you

  • Gary...last of a kind....never combative or beligerent....humble....to the end...

  • Does he have a brother named Greg working in the San Francisco area as the voice of the Oakland Raiders & the main host of a sports talk show?

  • 3:26 i remember tht broad cast R.I.P garry

  • "Why? Why are the innocent punished? Why the sacrifice? Why the pain? There aren't any promises. Nothing certain. Only that some get called, some get saved. He won't ever know the hardship and grief for those of whom were left behind. We commit this man to the great universe with a glad heart. For within each seed, there is a promise of a flower, and within each death, no matter how small, there's always a new life. A new beginning. Amen"

    Quote from Alien 3 (1992)

    Speaks volumes about him

  • i met gary twice in my life. the first time i met him was at the best buy at king of prussia. it was at the time he announced he had prostate cancer. the other time i saw him was at an Eagles game. he was chillin by the news van and i shook his hand. i was planning to get an autograph by i had no paper or pen.

    RIP GARY PAPA

  • Definitely, RIP Gary as well. When I first moved to PA, Channel 6 was the first channel I saw when I moved here and the first thing I saw ON it was Gary Papa nonetheless and I was instantly hooked! My sincerest thoughts and prayers to Gary's wife and kids, family and friends as well. I DON'T think Russell or Apode suck, give them a chance because a long time ago, people thought HE sucked too and he overcame all of those people and they will too! God bless you, Gary! :-(
