My 4 hour session with a Kalarippayattu guru in Kerala, India. This was my first exposure to Kalari, alleged precursor of Kung Fu, Karate, Tae Kwon Do and other martial arts.

  • m myself a kalari enthusiast.. trained for 10 yrs under different gurukkal..

3 different styles of kalari are der in existence. try watching t techniques.

eventhough most of them are agressive in nature, calms down the mind somehow..

unfortunately not so famous like other martial art forms around the world ..

  • @metropolizz66 you are right, this has been one of most meditative experiences for me. I hope to travel back one day for another session. A great adventure!..

  • @zmook42 kalari represents 1% of the indian martial arts found at one time, most of them have been permanently lost, there is one however preserved in russia. Look up 5000 year old martial art, it is lost in india but a few russians have preserved it.

  • Phillip Zarrilli, a professor at the University of Exeter and one of the few Western authorities on kalari payat, estimates that the art dates back to at least the 12th century CE. The historian Elamkulam Kunjan Pillai attributes the birth of kalari payat to an extended period of warfare between the Cheras and the Cholas in the 11th century CE.

  • Kalari TRUTH:

In Sangam, Kalari was not used as a martial act according to dick Luijendijk, a researcher at the university of Nijmegen. "Kalari" is a centre of learning in Kerala. they taught language, math etc. later on, there were fight schools, thats what "payattu kalari" means.

  • why do every guys say the same thing that kung-fu or kalari or karate styles are alike...!! dumbasses.....of course it's supposed to be alike....!!

human beings from all around the world eat with their mouth, wrtie with their hands, sleep with eyes closed.....then why shouldn't there be similarities in combat postures???After all it's those same human beings!!

  • Ever seen Shaolin staff technique? compare that with kalari's use of staves. It's very similar.

  • @Timbascoo what are you talking about? this art was kept secret from those bloody british bastards. i also think it should still be kept secret today.
