In this Webisode, artist Scott Waddell describes and demonstrates the concepts he uses to interpret and paint the effects of light on form. The contained animations are designed to illustrate particular points and not intended to represent the actual physical behavior of light.
I didn't blink for 5 minutes. That was simply a marvelous explanation.

@10milesfromnowhere Yes.
You'd be a better artist.
Focus on freezing that particularity, versus production based goal, you are an artist foremost.

@untilitpasses Do you mean that he paints it as if it's skin, versus as if it's this person's skin? (where you would add a bit of green/blue etc where you see it in the person?) In which case - for me (beginner) - that usually results in more of a rainbow like over the top mess, which is why SW's explanation works well for me (once I can get the 'standard' skin to look good, I can add all those other little translucent layering thingies that make it less general?)

@10milesfromnowhere It's me, different channel.
I did not mention the information for the sake of information. thenotoruiousadin noticed, you didn't.
Cast shadow, where the skin is thinner etc. are depersonalized information.
That is why, even though he knows and shows painting concepts, being concepts, they are guilty of generalization, leaving particularity outside.
All this chatter amounts to: S.Waddell paints with a preconceived approach, at least here.
