Co-Host Tawny Harper Reynolds and Guest Carol Channing work out while Dave watches from a safe distance.

  • This was obviously a parody Dave did in 1985on Late Night of his 1980 show. That show, BTW, was called "The David Letterman Show", not "The Morning Show". "The Morning Show" was on WABC in New York which later became "Live With Regis and Kathie Lee" in 1988.

  • Yes I know, but as you see in the clip... this episode was called "The Morning Show" Even though it is obviously "Late Night with David Letterman".

  • @orvgg There's some pictures of her on imdb.com from 1952, when she was in her early 30s.

  • I was a big fan of David Letterman in the 80's, but I had never seen this before.

Carol Channing was such a good sport- going along with the "morning show" parody and playing to the crowd during her exercises. "He's not offended, he's a doctor." Very funny stuff and priceless reactions from Dave.

Capped off with a totally random bumper of "Next Week: Polynesian Week At The Mall" this had me in tears I laughed so much. Thanks for sharing this clip!

  • Geez, I remember when this aired originally. Actually we had most of the episodes from 1985 on tape and regrettably taped over them.

  • Yup, like others have said this is a show-length spoof Dave did on his Late Night show. The 'gimick' being that most viewers were watching the show on VHS in the morning after taping it the night before. Ha!

For me, Letterman's Late Night will always be the gold standard for network TV comedy. It was modern edgy and cutting edge, and still holds up all these years later. It's impossible to beat.

  • Yes. I remember the episode where the picture did a complete 360 degree rotation. Sir Peter Ustinov was the guest and made some witty comments about his appearance upside down.

  • I wish Dave hadn't cut Carol short. That sounds like the best story ever.

  • This WAS Late Night with David Letterman! You're probably thinking this was Letterman's short-lived daytime talk show, "The David Letterman Show", but this was actually a gag-episode of Late Night with David Letterman where he pretends to be hosting a daytime talk show called "The Morning Show".

  • Goodness gracious... was carol ever young???

  • This was the most awesome show! It was live and Dave was totally impromptu and hilarious. Late Night with David Letterman was a pale imitation of that show.
