  • @GeniusFromTheBang I don't know the proper scientific answer to this question but from practical point of view there is no difference in meaning between those two pairs of words. The same person (father or mother) can call their son/daughter beta/beti one day and putr/putri the other day. Although "beta/beti" are a lot more popular, putr/putri are also used occasionally. Maybe the difference is that "putr" is more of a archaic Sanskrit word.

  • What's the difference between पुत्र and बेटा , and between बेटी and पत्री ?
