Great advice. I find the instrument dictates the style. When I pick up a new instrument I find I go tone searching and in the end the instrument dictates the way it is played. Fantastic sounds can be had from any instrument if you simply open your ears and are willing to adjust your playing style. Personally I even prefer ragged or cheaper instruments. I find there is more interesting things to play with compared to perfectly even almost sterile instruments like high end PRS etc...

Equipment IS also important.
Like the pickups for example: cheap pickups don't get a tone as rich as good ones.(together with a good amp, I have to say.) Lets say it like that: If u go into a guitar store the waiter will let u play a good guitar model to make u hungry for an amp that u wanna test. Go there with ur own guitar and test the amp recognize the weakness of ur cheap beginner guitar (autobiographic)

That's a very good point Changer01, but the point is to not focus only on equipment. It's a very expensive way to try to sound better when 95% of the players out there just need to play more. For example: what would happen if you handed your favorite guitar-god a cheapo guitar-amp combo? They would still rock and thats what I meant. Thanks for the comment!
