@ramblingringodolenz l was a student in Liverpool in the seventies and l had friends living in Yorkshire and the Northeast, this song reminds me of taking the 3.10 from Lime Street calling at St Helens Junction, Manchester Victoria, Stalybridge, Huddersfield, Leeds,York, Northallerton, Darlington, Durham and Newcastle. the litany of stations has stayed with me for over 35 years.

@Kittielips Well, it was just sad to consider how unceremoniously the steam era was brought to an end, considering that it would naturally have faded away eventually anyway, and also, taking into account, the loss not only of jobs but of knowledge and skills. The love and enthusiasm of railway buffs, artists, etc. was uplifting, on the other hand - their determination to rescue old engines from the scrapyards and preserve them for a grateful public.
