  • I love reading about and seeing Aussies in Vietnam. Not that I hate the yanks, just I'm an Aussie.

  • Thanks mate ... hope ypu enjoyed it.

  • I recall giving some of these guys an in-country orientation talk at Nui Dat some time in 1971. I served with D company, 75th Ranger Infantry Regiment, US Army. I seem to remember a comparatively high proportion of regular army guys in this outfit.

  • Nice to hear from you. It was bit hard to tell the Nasho's from the Regs ... but we were about 50/50. Hlaf the Battalion were National Servicemen and half were Regular Army. But we were 100% volunteers. Thanks for the in-country orientation - the NVA gave us one as well - 2 weeks into the Tour, when we were on a familiarisation exercise - we got real familiar with the NVA and VC, when we met a Main Force unit trying to attack the provincial capital Baria. Regards

  • @3RAR1971 My old man probably was lifting you boys all over the place in Hueys. He was a door gunner on the gunships. Got some hairy stories he does.

  • aussie's wow, I didn't even realize you guy's were over in the shit helping out the big ole U.S. of fucking A, thats awesome, and deff deserve's more recognition. I was totally oblivious to the fact that we had an allie in Vietnam other then the arvn's, I thought it was just us yank's as you put it, well from a younger generation and one who has served in the global war on terror I thank you.

  • ANZACS, don't forget the NZ's that were with the brigade!!! I met a couple/few (I was inebriated at the time so ...) of you Aussies & I think a NZer/Kiwi at the Old Maimi Bar/tavern in Detroit, Michigan many moons ago. One Aussie had taken up residence in Cleveland, Ohio with a lady - big fellow, but I was drunker & he just laughed & shook his head. Good & interesting time. Best Wishes!!!
