He always integrates his fusion chops into jazz like this, and it usually is not necessary. This is the most discretion I've seen him play with.

mm im tempted to agree with you in some ways, but i think it may be that it just sounds that way because of the recording. Whenever you go see jazz it never sounds random. Its a difficult instrument in that respect because its so quiet, its often quite hard to hear their intentions
