Zhou Xiaoyan - Hongdou Ci 周小燕 - 紅豆詞

This song, Hongdou Ci (Verse of the Red Bean), was recorded by Zhou Xiaoyan, one of the early recording artists in Shanghai. This I think was recorded mid-1940s. Lyrics from the classic Qing dynasty novel The Dream of Red Chamber.

周小燕生於1917年, 仍健在. 為中國音樂史上首代聲樂歌唱家. 早在1938年赴法國求學. 在戰後1956年回中國發展歌唱教學事業. 更早在回國前已在歐洲成名, 她的花腔令西方國家所驚嘆. 她亦精通英語, 意大利文, 德語及法文. 在文革期間, 飽受批鬥折磨. 文革結束後, 重投教育工作, 亦引進西洋歌劇. 同時亦作育英才, 造就不少現今活躍在國際聲樂舞台上中國知名歌唱家.
