When Moses and the newly freed Hebrews slaves sang The Song at the Sea, it was a response to the awesome might of G-d. But splitting of the Sea of Reeds is just a hint at an even more awesome event in the future.

[exodus21v20]

If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is his property. Ex 21:20-21

You may also buy them from among the children of aliens among you, or from their families, whom the begot in your land. These shall become your property: you may keep them as a possession for your children, for them to inherit as property for all time. Such you may treat as slaves. Lev 25:44
