I read a short story about how The Joker's mother was Dr. Lillian Tompkins, and that she was pregnant with another child when he was a little boy. In the story, The Joker's father gets layed off and sinks in to a drunken depression. One night, he gets violent and beats his wife, causing her to miscarry. From then on, the mother is depressed and little Joker doesn't know what to do. Slowly, his anger builds for his father for what he'd done, and one day, he decides he's going to kill him. And he does, beating him to death with an iron. The Joker thinks his mother will be pleased, but when she discovers what he's done, she runs from the house screaming, and eventually, little Joker gets put in to a mental institute, never to hear from his mother again. And he finally gets the joke that is life. Anyway, I thought this song illustrated that story well, and made a good "what if" for the character of The Joker, as an origin. Hope you enjoy it and thanks for watching.

The song is "Neverland" by Darren Hayes.

  • What was the title of the short story???

  • @theREALevilbunny Hey there. The story is called "Best of All".

  • great video, but for jokes's history, its never been confirmed to be true. see "Batman: The Killing Joke" on wikipedia for another version.

"Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!" - The Joker

  • Oh, I know. I just meant for that particular story, the song works and thought it might be fun to do a video like that. Anyway, thanks for watching and glad you liked it.

  • @eatbetter I think the point of this video was to people's attention more in to this origin candidate than "The Killing Joke".

  • I do agree, the song, video and description work great together!
