Jiri Kylian's "Falling Angels"

my god I love dance.

Falling Angels is a paradox. He confronts women in society in the 50s. Conformity, lack of rights and freedom. The way women are expected to live. The motifs in the work represent his intent.

"Falling Angels" is actually open to interpretation. This piece is one of Kylian's Black and White Ballets. The B&W Ballets ask big questions such as What is life, love and dance. The lighting resembles a chessboard. He may be insinuating that life, love and dance is all a strategic game.

ultimately i believe Falling angels represents a dancers continual strive for perfection and the obsessive and unatainable goals this ideal possesses.
The lighting is also significant as it may represent conformity and entrapment. the square boxes may be symbolic of coffins, cages or the restrictions we place on ourselves. Kylian plays with this idea using the dancers as instruments to explore these ideas.

I like this, this is really interesting. I've really connected to all of Kylian's work I've seen thus far. I tried to find some background on the choreographer's concepts and themes but I'm having trouble making the connections when I watch this particular piece. =/
