The Mediterranean region has always been "water poor". But now it is facing rising demand amid predictions of less rainfall.

The Mediterranean has seven per cent of the worlds population, but only three per cent of its fresh water.

In Greece's western Thessaly region, the problem is particularly acute.

Al Jazeera's Nicole Itano reports.
