Scotty Kilmer, mechanic for the last 44 years, shows how you can both find oil leaks on your car, and then fix them. A little UV dye is just needed to pinpoint them. Visit Scottykilmer.com for answers to all your car questions.

  • Hey, Scotty. I've had a slow leak/seep for a while now. I've also noticed that when I pull out the dip stick, it smells of gas. I was told to change my oil immediately, but shouldn't I find out the problem first, or else the new oil will smell like gas just the same? Is the oil leak related to it smelling like gas? It doesn't seem so.

  • @lllllllRobot could be related, if fuel injectors are leaking too much fuel, that will dilute the oil, and cause oil seal leaks. I'd try to figure out why gas in in their first.

  • im dripping oil . its coming off a line in the front of my car , dont know if its the cooler line or what .. it is a line from my oil pan to my radiator and it leaks only when the engine is running.. i have a 1997 cadillac develle concourse .. can some 1 help me

  • @s1rkr see if the line is leaking or the connections on either end. Then replace the leaking part. It's easier to figure out using the dye in this video

  • Can you show us how to fix a water leak inside a barrel? Im taking mine next week to Niagara Falls and dont want to get wet when I go off the waterfall.

  • It is very kind of you to put up these videos to help people out. I bought an old geo metro for $700 and it costs double that to repair it. I think it's time for me to stop being such a girly girl and learn more about cars and do all these repairs myself.

  • @scottykilmer Thanks. I would have never realized that. In one video, you were testing fuel injector, and you commented how the tester can flash intermittently. Could that mean a leaking fuel injector, or does it just mean bad/future failing?

  • @whole27 they make em low for better gas mileage, less air resistance. So they will get lower and lower as time goes on.

  • @scottykilmer going over railroad tracks too fast...see that is why i always wondered why cars are made so low to the ground? So much damage can be avoided if they were just a few inches higher, why don't they do that?

  • @Fillybol that won't fix anything, you probably just need new valve cover gaskets, sealers don't fix that, you need new gaskets. Sealers only work on oil seals, not gaskets.

  • Mr. Kilmer, I have a 71 Cutlass Supreme I just replaced the Master Cylinder and a new Carb..now I am leaking oil (it appears) onto my headers and it is making my car smoke really bad. Is it safe to put the mixing sealant onto wherever I find the leak is?

  • @brandon1997bmx yes, they sell a kit, got mine at auto zone
