The Newfoundland dialect is derived from the Scots-Irish (more Irish than Scots) that settled there a couple of centuries back and were isolated enough from the mainland to keep their dialect.
Once upon a time, they did terrible things like put up lights to draw ships on to the rocks & then they'd plunder the ships. They've mellowed a lot in the intervening time, and now, Newfoundlanders are probably the friendliest people in North America.
Plus, St. Johns is such a happenin' place these days

I am a Korean guy who used to study English in NL for 1 year and 10 months, and I still find it hard to understand their strong accent. But I still had such a great experience! The best of my life!! seriously!!

This is great. I love that it plays up the stereotype that we're ridiculously hospitable, not that we're idiots. 22 Minutes is awesome.
