Yeah. In my opinion, the Bydo Mother(this boss' official name) looks like something H. P. Lovecraft thought up.
-
what "NO MISS" means is that he did not lose a single life during the playthrough. In this case, he did not lose a life on the boss.
Way back when, losing a life was called getting a "miss", because you "missed" a chance at completing your given task in the game.

This game made me shit my pants when i was 12, I thought I'd won, and then OH MY GOD IT'S STILL ALIVE! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!

I just beat this game two times, the first and second loop. It took me a good four hours and man was it hell. Here's a easier way of beating the final form... charge up the hyper gauge, and go behind him... not completely behind him, just enough from the top so you can hit him... start spamming the fire button and after 3-4 hits from the hyper beam.. he should open his mouth. This way you don't have to dodge those stupid blasts and waste your tme.

The good ol' times, where game creators could use camel noises as demonic screams.:)

One trick that'll help is when he shoots out those orbs, go to the left of the screen. When the orbs come at you, move so that they go off the screen. Once they go off, they won't come back on, so you don't have a bunch of those orbs to dodge.

How do you switch to this Hyperfunction and does it vary from core type to core type?

I beleive it's one of the button you press, that will switch between beam and hyper. It's R by default I believe. And no, it doesn't vary, as it's a part of R9 and not the force.
