I'm Paul Elkins of http://www.highmileagetrikes.blogspot.com' Pavo is a single passenger enclosed motor assisted recumbent tricycle with a 2 hp briggs and stratton motor to create an economical high mileage vehicle for an alternative to today's larger than necessary vehicles, and because it falls into the laws of a motor assisted tricycle, no license, yearly registration or insurance is needed.

  • That would be nice, but then you couldn't incorporate a transmission, and it would be difficult starting up a hill with the vehicle weight and engine compression holding you back.

  • About 23 mph. I purchased a new variable speed hub at a pretty penny but have to make some frame changes for it to fit. Should have a better high and low ratio when done.

  • I pedal sometimes to get it started or when I'm going up my steep driveway. If you've seen a unicycle, thats how fast I go, but the motor is connected to the 6 speed gear cluster allowing me to go from 4 mph to 25 mph.

  • Thank you!

It certainly could be more aerodynamic or lighter (100 lbs) but I tried to make it small, simple, cheap and utilitarian.

  • with the peddle assist did you consider direct drive and just have it die at stop signs then restart when you went to leave?
