This is The 7:30 Report's piece on the Australian Vaccination Network. They are an anti-vaccination group from Australia who are relentless in their spread of misinformation, resulting in innocent victims such as the mother seen half-way through the report.

The ABC report from the program can be found here:

  • Meryl Dorey's continual lies had me shouting at the computer. Her assertion that parents reading a few articles could be as knowledgeable of a doctor is just pure bullshit. Dorey is no better than a Nazi and is doing irrevocable damage to Australian children. She should go to jail.

  • @camporomero PMID: 17034278 : In 2006, 292 children, no difference between placebo and, well, placebo.

  • Meryl Dorey, an dangerous ignorant passing on ideologically based nonsense. Her "treatment" using homeopathy is proof positive of that.

People really don't realize how dangerous their ignorance is to everyone.

  • Stop the AVN !! check out face book anti Australian vaccination network

  • i cried when the babies were crying!!

  • 3. We count the deaths of extremely premature infants and those under 400 grams as an "infant mortality"- other countries list these deaths as a "fetal death" not an "infant death". Do you see how that skews other countries to have seemingly lower infant mortality deaths?

    4. We go to great lengths (with those dreaded medical supplies and materials you loathe so much) and costs to try to preserve the lives of infants that many other countries would not. And you think this is wrong?

  • @camporomero

I also have to point out that comparing the infant mortality rate between US and Cuba is more complex than simply saying A is less than B.

    To simplify if for you:

    1. The US keeps some of the most extensive statistics on early infant mortality. Many other countries do not.

    2. We go to great lengths to try to keep low birth rate, extremely premature, infants alive. Other countries do not always do this.

  • Their average life expectancy rose from about 59 in the 1950s to over 77 years old in 2005.

You seem to be wanting to argue the COST of healthcare rather than the effectiveness of modern medicine. Cuba has universal, government sponsored healthcare for all of its citizens. The US does not. This has a great deal to do with the "very high cost" of keeping the population healthy.

I am extremely curious. Are you in favor of socialized healthcare in the US?

  • @camporomero

If you don't want to continue the conversation, simply don't reply. Especially with poorly thought out arguments such as this.

You need to check your facts. Cuba has a pretty extensive health care system (complete with medical products and supplies.) Currently they have almost twice the number of doctors per 100,000 people than the US does. They also implemented a near universal vaccination policy in the '60s.

  • @StumpyOuch Cuba has educated its population about the prevention of diseases and the promotion of health, Cubans depend less on medical products and supplies to maintain a healthy population.

The opposite is occurring in the United States, a country which depends heavily on medications and new technologies to keep its population healthy at a very high cost. And Cuba is just one example.
