Newborn hippo

Chobe River in Chobe National Park, Botswana. Our morning river cruise came upon a newborn hippo. The first 6 minutes of the video we are following a 'bloat' of Hippopotami. We were amazed at the number of hippos. There must have been about 15 with about 4 very young ones. They were quite active; jumping, sounding and blowing at us. We now think they must have been trying to warn us away from the momma and new baby which you will see in the last couple of minutes. The cow gives birth in the water and then she and the calf walk out of the river and up the bank. Even our guides had never seen this before.
