  • What month of the vear did this happen?

  • I made this late March 2008 and posted it April. The Blue Tits have since moved into the box in the front garden and share the tree with a pair of Robins!

  • the bird at the start trying to get into the box is clearly a bluetit u eejit lol..... a greattit has a black head this bird is a bluetit lol

  • I think if you take a closer look, you'll see that it was in fact, a Parus major, hence it couldn't fit through the 25mm hole that was cut for the Cyanistes caeruleus - a pair of which has since made use of that first box now that I've moved it to the front of the house as I mentioned in the video. Believe me, this bird had a black head, not blue, besides, as you know, the Blue tit is a totally different shape from the Great tits as can be quite clearly seen from this Great tit here.

    Eejit. ;)

  • Awesome!

  • Thankee! :)

  • with the tit speacies blue and great tits the male bird finds a suitable nesting box and he guards it and he gets the female to enter the box behind him and when she does he leaves and the female is the 1 who will chose the nesting site. this is seen in the 7th minute of this film. robins are very hard to get to use a open box but an old metal kettle hidden on its side in deep cover is better than a box and will be used.

  • Perfect music and the enjoyed the commentary. It was great. A really relaxing video.

  • I love the spring. How wondrous to host wildlife in your garden.

  • Nice update.

Are you laying on a free all-day buffet (peanut feeder) as well as the free accommodation?

  • Gary, I loved these vids - this one was so relaxing to watch with my morning coffee

A few days ago I had a bit of a start when I looked out my kitchen window to see a

4 lb+ redtailed hawk perched one of my birdhouses pulling out the nest!

I mean - she was less than 20 feet away & even though I wanted to shoo her away - she was just doing what is natural...

good news - no birds were home & hadn't laid their eggs yet, whew!!

Looking forward to all your garden adventures!

    ~La :)

  • Really great bird vid Gary! And yep, I checked your tags, LOL. It's a good thing Youtube is now giving us 3 icon choices or otherwise you'd have gotten one of those worst icons possible you used to get.
