@TRANSiENTART that is a very good way to put it. I once had a client to come and put a magnifying glass up to a drawing I did. I'm sure you know most art is meant to be seen at a distant so this really bothered me and she ended up not paying for it so criticism gets to me sometimes!
@TRANSiENTART I say 2+2=4 while the amateur whines for a 3 and a critic cries for a 5. I also like to look at it as, "Out of 100 people, 25 people will love your work, 25 will hate it, and 50 just won't care." Then I try to keep my focus on those first 25 (also helpful to remember when marketing) I always remember that my opinion matters that most out of everyone, because I'm stuck with myself 24/7. =P
It depends on the type of criticism I receive, as in I don't care whether it's positive or negative, I care whether it's constructive or nonconstructive. If someone tells me something negative that doesn't seem to be trying to help my work, then they just seem to think they have the right to set themselves up on a pedestal over you. There's no point in plain out demeaning someone and what they do without telling them what could be done instead I think.
