CLASS RIP OLLIE..
-
After watching countless classic interviews from these legends of old, I suddenly find a strange feeling of despair encircling me, brought on by the realisation that television has become dumbed down much much further than I could ever have anticipated. British broadcasting is now excessively commercial, and it suffers tragically.

He is heroic. Pisses all over the little twat in the edge who sits there, waiting for the camera.

@PortsmouthNoir so true, yes, we don't have guys like this anymore. The world has become pussified.
-
@RichardElden I agree with most of your statement but he was definitely not talentless. He oozed a sort of unique kind of Heathcliffe-like (as in Wuthering Heights) moody smoldering charisma in his earlier films. Whether nepotism was involved who knows but he certainly had a screen presence.

@nevilleprinsloo maybe two or three whiskeys, never sober before a chat show. He hated them and was VERY nervous.
-
@Korea4Me Burton, O'toole, Harris, Marvin and most of the same generation would technically be labelled alcoholics today. If you are seen more than once a week with a drink in your hand you're having a "crisis". Actors need to grow balls.

Oliver Reed is one of the true legends in film history, gifted, difficult and contradictory. That is what life is all about. It doesn't make sense to condemning him for his alcohol problems. Some people make so high moral demands on people of public life. But the same people can't fullfill this demands. I call this people selfrightous. Oliver was a great actor, not always a "gentleman", but a charismatic and interesting personality.
