When Obama became president he published a memorandum on the Whitehouse website stating:
"My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government. We will work together to ensure the public trust and establish a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our democracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in Government."
Obama made statements at a press conference alleging the US government would side with whistleblowers instead of those trying to suppress information citing that "for a long time there has been too much secrecy in this city" (Liberaledu, 2009) and "This administration stands on the side, not of those that seek to withhold information, but to those that seek to make it known" (Liberaledu, 2009). Time has demonstrated Obama's above pledges to be hollow rhetoric.
The Obama administration has prosecuted more whistleblowers than the rest of the former presidents combined (Edmonds, 2011) and pursued WL CEO with vehemency.
Furthermore, many academics have questioned the Obama Administration use of the state secrets privilege (German & Stanley, 2011). Obama has invoked baseless and unconstitutional executive secrecy to quash legal inquiries into secret illegalities more often than any predecessor (Edmonds, 2011).
I am writing a thesis of public trust in government, the media, and WikiLeaks. Please leave comments after this short clip and they may appear in the thesis.
@mikestheman3 - Seems like hollow promises doesn't it? Did Obama intend to lie or do you think he was legitimate in trying to be more transparent but is unable to control his administration?

1st thing he did the 1st day in office was sign an Executive Order sealing all his records.
"Let me say it as simply as I can: Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency,
" President Obama said on his first full day in office.
