Winter renovation of a 14' plywood dinghy, set to "6 months in a leaky boat" by Sevenz. Work on the boat included scarfing new hull panels, removing the old thwarts and creating new side benches/lockers, fitting a samson post, fibre-glassing various joints to add structural strength, and of course endless painting. The whole project took a little over five weeks, with most of the work being carried out under cover.

  • I'm (trying to) renovating a Solo dinghy at the moment. Your vid is great and really encouraging.

  • @davemakesawave Cheers dave, there's an hour long version showing you various things in much more detail that you might find encouraging too.

  • What kind of paint did you use ?

  • @bulldog01209 if I remember rightly the paint was teamac marine gloss

  • Well Done :)

  • @PenhillNews Thank you, it was a very satifying project.

  • Wow so nice work man!! also with italian flag! great!

  • @MrRidr2 Hi, if I'm understanding you right what you want to do is get rid of your keel slot rather than repair it. If that's the case then what I did on the dinghy in the video was to plane a length of 2" x 2" to fit into the keel slot then hammer it home and glass it in then cut the remnents of the keel box out later. In my case I think the new hull skin covered the entire keel slot, but if not then facing it with a single strip of marine ply sounds like it ought to be plenty good enough.
