By chance we were invited to participate in a session with two other couples with the famous Dr. Harvey Karp of "Happiest Baby on the Block" fame! A woman was recording a radio piece for the BBC and we were among Dr. Karp's subjects.

  • Right imagine if you got really agitated at work or something and your boss grabbed you, wrapped you up REALLY tight, and rocked you gently while SHUSHING really loud in your ear :) LOL

  • @morenia20 In utero, the baby is sitting right next to the largest artery in the body, the abdominal aorta of the mother. All those loud sounds on the doppler you hear, that's what baby's environment is like.

  • @qwinkly Where i had my children, they refuse breastfed babies the use of pacifiers. The only time a breastfed child will need a top up bottle ( an ounce) is when they baby has jaundice, only if the mothers full milk has not come in yet because they need to be under the lights for 5 hours at a time. Nipple confusion is horrible, My little sister had it because she got sick as a child and had to bottle fed breast milk in hospital, then when she want back on the breast it was so hard.

  • @AOD901 IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE!

  • @qwinkly MOTHER USED CONFUSE! BABY BECAME NIPPLE CONFUSED.

  • Good idea - I would say that getting your baby accustomed to SHSHSH is a good idea because EVERYONE can do it. Not everyone can sing, and even if caretaker has laryngitis, they can still SHSHSH. Baby will not hear a difference between male and female either. I would have to say it's far more boring for the adult than singing, though......

  • BAD IDEA ! There are some nursing babies who get "nipple confusion" when introduced to a bottle or a pacifier, and then there are problems with breastfeeding. If you want to breastfeed, you should NOT give a bottle or pacifier to a baby this young. It can be quite a struggle in the hospital to get this idea across to the nurses in the nursery that under no circumstances is ur baby to get a pacifier, or a water bottle! Ask the La Leche League if u think I'm incorrect about nipple confusion.

  • Try putting a bit of water in your mouth and sucking in without drinking it. Making a bubbling noise. Like sucking the last bit of liquid from the bottom of a drink. Used to be like a switch to my daughter. Crying, crying, bubble noise, silence with a calm look on her face. Used to work a treat :) And blowing bubbles through a straw with a glass of water.

  • @morenia20 Dr. Karp actually explains in his book that when babies are in the womb it's SUPER loud, and they're surrounded by fluid and they've got wax in their ears. They still have the build-up in their ears after their born, and their hearing isn't as sensitive as ours. It seems annoying to us, but they just really love it. Weird, I know.

  • DOn't know about the sushing on the ears, everything else makes sense but IDK is too loud

  • He is totally right. When the baby is born it is like a "4rth trimester" for the baby. It is important to create a "womb-like" atmosphere. This is why the swaddleling works great together with the loud white noise. I bought his video and it was really impressive to see how fast he calmed babies down with his 5 S's technique in a matter of seconds.
