Patti's the ABOLUTE GREATEST Broadway actress of ALL-TIME (in my opinion), and the Best 'Mama Rose' on stage ever!!! I still love Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, etc. who have also played the role on stage, but nobody belts it/owns it like Patti LuPone:) GENIUS all around (Gypsy, Anything Goes, Evita, etc.)!!!!! TRULY AMAZING to watch:)

Guys, honestly - is anyone better in that role then Patti? I've listened to many versions, even Ethel's... I hope I am objective enough, but I still do like Patti the most!

June Havoc also repeatedly said that the musical was a fabrication from beginning to end, a "fable" as the title correctly states, it was Gypsy Rose Lee's fairy tale which she spun around her real life youth and dealings with the real mama Rose who was, to put it mildly, a monster..so let's just keep mama Rose in fable land and not search too much for the real one..that would have been a VERY different musical

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this rendition. and I have no shame in saying that in almost everything else i love Bernadette's version (her vulnerability in Rose's Turn) But just the pure vocal power of this rendition is drool worthy
