"Had he been in power"??? He kind of is in power. His mistake happened nearly 40 years ago, and ever since, he's only been helping this society. You still haven't said how he has harmed it in anyway.

He has KNOWLEDGE of foreign affairs. He hasn't been a super hero who has tackled entire international affairs alone; that's just not how it works. He simply knows a lot by working in foreign policy for umpteen years.
