What If

AU. Michael and Sara were already secretly dating before Lincoln was accused of murder. When Lincoln was, Sara kept her distance to Michael. Michael can't understand of course how she can leave him alone in a time like this. Nevertheless he believes, that she's always with him, at least in his mind, without knowing, how close she really is to him and that she knows everything that happened to him lately. What he also doesn't know is the fact, that already a plan was set into motion to get her in his life again.

Author's Note: Michael's POV. Follows his steps of coming up with a plan and also already some time spend in prison.
The reason why M&S dated only secretly and why she kept her distance, you can think of yourself. I personally reasoned the first thing, with the fact that Michael wasn't really close to someone, he could have told it too and Sara didn't want her father to find out about the relationship and destroy it. As for the second thing, a little bit of the previous reason. With such a big case, Sara knew her father would be involved and if she stayed close to Michael, her father would find out and it might even hurt Lincoln's case. She might even have been a little bit afraid of Michael's devotion to the case also. After all she never met Lincoln and can't really say if it's something he would do. She only knows that he used to be in trouble a lot and call up Michael, who always came to the resuce.

Important: Forget all you know about Sara's past, what we learned about in 1x18. Therefore before and while Michael and her dated, she was still working at the hospital.

This is another neat idea. I especially like how you used certain clips of Sarah reacting to make it believable with this story that they already knew each other. For example, the one where she drops to her knees in shock as if in reaction to seeing Michael's robbery. Really great job!
