Episode: Malice for Quake
Level: Area 44
Secrets: One
Difficulty: Hard

OH NOES, I BROKETH THE GAME!!!

Yes, many of you may be wondering what the hell that message at the top of the screen means after it signals its arrival half way through. Frankly my dear, I haven't got a clue (and don't give a damn!). Those of you who are clued up in Quake design philosophy may know what it's referencing but that sort of stuff goes way over my head. It didn't seem to do any harm in the long run and as long as the level wasn't completely banjaxed then that message can keep on spewing the same old garbage for as long as it damn well pleases.

Being the curious cat that I am, I booted up Malice through DOSBox and played the same level again after I had done the deed of recording said level. Playing the game through DOSBox resulted in no error message. Nor was there the endless cacophony of the 'call lift siren' wailing away endlessly. It seems the problem lay with me playing the game through the Steam version of Quake with the Darkplaces engine in place. There's obviously something the game wasn't happy with but I'm buggered to know what it was.

Anyway, that aside, it's another short foray into Malice much like that other 'Area' that's eleven doors down (or is it eleven floors up?) from this one. Let's see; not many Secrets, a rather low enemy count (even though there is a new one introduced) and the lacklustre level design leaves much to be desired. Could have been better but didn't give itself the chance.

Next level, please!

Secret: 5:20 - 5:25.

  • The error seems to be something to do with an invalid model, due to how QuakeC works. But it seemed to be otherwise than spitting those warnings, to be harmless.

These levels are not the worst but they're slowly becoming less inspired IMHO. But your gameplay is fantastic.

  • @KraiggoWaffles Ah. Many thanks for explaining it in laymen's terms for my benefit (and anyone else).

There is A good level coming up (probably my favourite of the mod) but after that, it starts to become very forgettable. Two maps in particular raise an eyebrow due to their baffling design. Although, it could have been my own incompetence at the time that may make them look bad.

  • What's You Name In Steam, SO I can Add You?

  • @windows987654321 BulleTheory be my name. My avatar is Sonic if you have trouble tracking me down. Just so you know, I'm very rarely online so don't think I'm ignoring you if I haven't accepted an invite straight away.

  • Well, it's still better than the secret missions!

Tits, you said? In that case, tits or GTFO!

There you go. A lovely pair of tits!

(Quite safe for work, just so you know)

  • the banshe mech reminds me of ed-209 (the insane robot from robocop)

  • Someone's got to remake the klaxon sound and call it the "Klaxon Beat" HARDY HARDY HAR C WAT I DID THAR!

On a side note that grenade launcher type weapon looks like the Imperial Heavy Repeater from Jedi Knight 2.
