and so it continues, winter season2011/2012 is here so beach is open to beach driving, fishing, walking, whatever with in reason & the law...

March 2011: no access to cape point via ramp 43 , 44,45 or 49. you can drive on the beach at each ramp, but don't expect to get to the actual cape point unless you have wings. threatened & endangered species of feathered critters rule until after nesting season & then the turtles rule after that. so there is beach driving permitted but plenty of signs & string delineating the landscape everywhere. there's still a few sloughs to fish here & there along the beach & plenty of flotsam to explore so come on down to cape hatteras and enjoy what we DO have...it's your beach too! www.preservebeachaccess.org

21july2010The east side of Cape Point is open to vehicles from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily. Night driving is prohibited from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.
A pre-nesting closure west of Cape Point on the South Beach is still closed to pedestrians and ORVs, as is Ramp 45 behind the Cape Point Campground.

THE POINT used to be open year around- round the clock.
these past few years, bad science & lawsuits managed to get the point closed & other prime beach places on Hatteras, Ocracoke & Bodie islands for many prime vacation weeks helping cripple an already challenged island economy.

The Point had been closed may-early august for a piping plover sitting on eggs nearby so no ORVs were allowed except for park (dis)service. July 2010: now open to pedestrians~

  • This makes me want to puke, there are NO people yet fewer birds (and NO PLOVERS) than when families and friends enjoyed this spot for thousands of yards in either direction at this time of year......SHAME ON YOU THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE, SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!

  • yes it would help if folks would get their state reps to support the reintroduction of house Bill 718 ASAP

  • Too bad we won't be able to enjoy it much longer unless things change..

  • everything is cool waves and how they converge, and even a beautiful bird at 0:57. very relaxing place i must say.
