I replaced the name Lori with "Allie". She was the best dog (Boxer) I ever had, and passed last Feb. I play this song on my guitar and sing it to my wife who breaks down and sobs every. single. time. Can't help singing it though... it's a remembrance.

Keith Whitley was one of the best singers ever...he had a heart of gold too! It makes me sad that the addiction finally took his life! I know what the battle of the bottle is I too have had to fight it nearly my whole life...since the age of 15...its not an easy fight!! So if youve never started ,please DON'T.. and if your trying to quit..get all the supprt you can !

Not sure if it is true but an Urban Legend about this song is that Lorrie Morgan was out on tour when he recorded this song from his living room, after he finished recording this song he took his life. That is why you can hear the TV in the background.
