Every day, infants around the world die from Pertussis, or Whooping Cough. Help end this needless tragedy by ensuring that you and your children are vaccinated against this deadly disease.

Even with the best modern medical care, 1 in 200 infants who contract pertussis will die. They cannot begin vaccination until 2 months of age, but you can help protect them by ensuring that the rest of your family are immunised against the disease.

Immunity from pertussis is not life-long, so even if you had an infection or the vaccine as a child, you are almost certainly not immune anymore. This is why 80% of infants infected with pertussis contracted it from their immediate family.

Help silence the sounds of pertussis: Immunise you children, Immunise yourself.

  • I mat have pertussis, what should I do as far as taking care of myself? I understand I should get the shot but what can I do as of now? Thank you, please respond!

  • @CSQUAR3DsBaCk Go and see a doctor. They will diagnose and prescribe a treatment.

  • when they're able to administer Just the WC vaccine without the two others I'll vaccinate my son.

  • @Jrm4cam The WC vaccine has been given together with Diphtheria and Tenanus for over 50 years now. While Diphtheria is uncommon in developed countries, Tetanus is very common and certainly worth protecting against.

  • @VaccinateYourKids Can be treated with antibiotics. Nothing worth injecting newborns with aluminum adjuvant.

  • @Jrm4cam Do you know that kids receive more aluminum from breast milk every 2 days than from the DTP vaccine? (see Melena et.al 1995)

Antibiotics in isolation do not work for Tetanus, especially severe cases. In addition to IV antibiotics (for over a week), you also need Tetanus immunoglobulin injection/IV and other meds. Severe cases will end up in ICU.

I find it hard to believe that you think weeks of IV antibiotics and other meds, plus suffering are better than a vaccine.

  • @hawkecho Actually, the acellular vaccine protects against 5 strains of bordetella pertussis (the bacteria that causes whooping cough - it's not a virus). There is some evidence that it is not as effective against two additional strains due to genetic drift (MT27 & 40), but it still reduces severity for those strains.

As the vaccine protects against the most common strains, and reduces severity of the others it's still vitally important and effective for children & adults to be vaccinated.

  • I have whooping cough:(

  • I am completely dumbfounded by the anti-vax movement. It's like they're trying to drag civilization back to the disease-filled dark ages. They should all move to Africa, so they can enjoy their infectious diseases like the "good old days".

  • @Jrm4cam As VYC said, treating tetanus with antibiotics only causes the release of more toxin and a worsening of the condition. Though there is an antitoxin, it only works against toxin that hasn't already bound to the nerve endings, so any muscles that have already started to spasm will stay spasming until new nerve endings can be grown. Meanwhile, painful muscle spasms - sometimes strong enough to break bones - will wrack the victim, and only supportive care can be offered. Tetanus is horrible

  • @hawkecho do you know there would be more money to be made by the pharma companies and therapeutical industry as a whole in treating these diseases than in the vaccines? that argument doesn't make sense, they would be better off financially in allowing these diseases to become prevalent!
