Tutorial lesson how to dance to Vivaldi the only right way... - Scene taken from Igor Šterk's beautiful first full-length (and almost wordless) film "Ekspres, Ekspres" (Gone with the Train, 1996).

lgor Sterk (*1968) graduated at the Academy of Theater, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana. His short film "Razglednice" (Postcards, 1989) was awarded for best screenplay at the Yugoslav Festival of Short and Documentary Films in Belgrade. "Express, Express" marked the start of the "New Slovenian Film Movement," representing a new generation of film makers in Slovenia. The film won numerous awards - chosen both by critics and by audiences - at international festivals.

  • YES !! ..today I had the chance to actually see this great piece of Slovenian Cinema by director Igor(ja) Šterk(a) :

"Ekspres, Ekspres" aka "Gone with the Train" (1996) is a naïve but mesmerizing masterpiece imho, ..an ode to 'love' and to the (rail)'roadmovie' genre, with brilliant casting and plenty of subtle humour in a story with few words, ..less is more : a 'must see' for the filmfreaks !!!

thanks simonettavespucci, this was a great teaser.

  • @fokrobot Thanks for the appreciation, fokrobot. A reviewer over at IMDB once wrote that "this film has soul, and this is very rare." I agree with that, as well as with most of your statements - except for that bit about the filmfreaks. ;-)

Actually I consider the whole film pretty compatible with a bigger audience if it got any promotion. Or at least just a broadcast at TV.

As far as I know, the film started the careers for both main actors (hey, at least in Slovenia!).

  • do you have this on dvd? I've been looking for a copy for years.

  • Yes, but unfortunately the DVD is only available in Slovenia and has obviously no distribution in the West.

  • Beautiful film, one of my favourites! And now I know where the scenes were taken: the station on which the man dances: Kanfanar, Croatia, the Divača-Pula line. The station, on which the girl walks and there is a hill with a church in the background, is Prvačina, line Nova Gorica-Sežana, in Slovenia. :)

  • How ùtter brilliant !! ..this truly must be my favourite film (before even seeing it).

the money was a real climax :

3 times 5 stars and thanX for this great up'n'share, plus the lesson w/ background info !!!

  • Beautiful film! I have just got the DVD from Slovenia today! :)

  • Viva Vivaldi!

  • thanks!
