New Metallica Album - Death Magnetic
The band that rocked the heavy-metal scene in the 1980s is back attacking the music industry. Metallica's newly released 9th studio album has dominated the Billboard charts since its early September drop. 'Death Magnetic' reached 3 weeks at number-1 on Billboard's US-album chart, and this cd is only the 2nd album in 08 to boast 3-straight-weeks on the chart.
The song themes are classic metal lore and lyrics were influenced by 'rock and roll' martyrs. Straight from the band, 'Death Magnetic' is all about death, suicide, despair and misery -- not too uplifting of an album -- and that's exactly why it's being so well-received.
The first 2 released songs, called 'The Day That Never Comes' and 'Cyanide' both reached the singles charts, which many in the industry say is quite impressive because both tracks are more than 6-and-a-half minutes long. In fact, all 10 tracks on 'Death Magnetic' feature long play times. Plus, 'The Judas Kiss' is being called a true metal lovers fantasy song, as it's packed with extreme guitar riffs. 'The Unforgiven 3' is a sequel song and it includes a unique sampling of strings, brass and woodwinds along with classic Metallica rock.
Even with all of the sales, downloads and impressive chart records, some fans are voicing their not-100-percent-impressed opinions about the album. Some are saying the new tracks are too loud, and that the version available on Guitar Hero is better than those on the original album. These fans aren't complaining about the brutal riffs or vocals, they're speaking out about the extreme compression in editing that affects the soft-loud dynamics.
