Unfortunately Beethoven or Ravel cannot now speak out against Rieu. There is a reason they orchestrated their music in the way they did. Also note Rieu does not just change the musical arrangement-he cuts the music up and takes away the subtlety of the original, taking the themes out of context. That is unacceptable. Would you cut up the Mona Lisa?
Do you seriously think that these composers wanted their music to end up as tunes for a mass clappalong?I think not.

Liviagray-there are many great classical musicians who sell many records but also have integrity and respect for the music.Rieu however does NOT respect the original music and actually plays it badly in the case of J Strauss. He is a very talented businessman-that is definite. The composers music he uses are turned into cheap clappalong muzak. Why is it snobbish to respect a composers wishes? To say I am I jealous is missing my point. Many great classical musicians have made a lot of money.

Who you think you are to talk from behalf of dead composers? How do you know what they would say or do? You are really funny person. For centuries this music was changed by different musicians, and you complain about it? I hardly doubt Andre Rieu insulted composer, i think they would be pleased to know, that so many people still like their music and still enjoy it.

Not everyone live in Berlin and can go to Berlin Phill. Many people live in places where they didn't have opera theaters or philharmonics. I just don't get it why do you care? It's not like someone force you to go to Andre Rieu concerts or listen to his music. You are jealous of his success and came there to put him down. But you no what? It's not working. No close-minded musical snobs can stop people to like Andre Rieu.

You say 'listen to the music'-but Rieu does'nt play what the composer wrote! Lardman is totally correct. Record sales are not relevant. We are both talking about the artistic integrity of the music. If Rieu sold 100 milion copies that does not make his records better. The point is that Rieu cuts up the original pieces leaving just the main tune and then and turns the music into a clappalong or moody lift music. That is unacceptable and insults the original composers.

And this is not the end. Musician need to be promoted and be known or his records and concert tickets would be not sold and their career will come to the end.
Judging from Andre Rieu videos he is not just talented musician, but he also a smart businessman. His arenas are full of people, who enjoying his music. Doesn't matter what you say, but so many people, who came on Andre Rieu concerts can't be wrong. He is very talented and if you don't like it, it's your problem.

You are very naive person if you think that music charts doesn't meter. They meter if musician want to have a career. Maybe many people enjoy and play classical music for the simple joy on the streets, but not in the theaters. Been musician is a very hard job and to be signed by record label need to be more than just good violinist who can play classical music. You probably would say, who need a record label? Any musician need to be signed to have someone, who would organize their concerts.
