  • @waverider201 Did having to cross the water have anything to do with the failure?

  • @tigerjonn

Nope, the Samurai destroyed the mongols, it is just the storm is the final blow. The Mongols isn't too difficult to deal with once you know their strategy, just like a plague, their army can only be supplied from pillaging others, if you deny them this advantage, they were eventually starved themselves. This is exactly what the Vietnamese and Japanese did, and both of them won against Mongol invasion.

  • From what I gathered and learned, the Japanese were initially severely disadvantaged when fighting the Mongols. Mongols didn't follow the code of Bushido, and never really had a concept of 1 v 1 duelling. They also were extremely advanced in war, using poison tipped arrows. However, while the storm was one of the greatest reasons for the Mongol Empire's failure to capture Japan, another reason would have been the Japanese swords were better and the Japanese more stealthy.

  • @meatisdeliciouse Mamluk were actually supported by Berke (Golden horde)! Berke forged an alliance with the Egyptian Mamluks against Hulagu (Chagadai Khanate). That was civil war between Mongol hordes. SEE(wiki: Berke–Hulagu war)

  • @meatisdeliciouse they were actually defeated by a storm, not the japanese.

  • I think the mongols tried to invade Japan but suffered 10's of thousands of casulties. One of only 2 wars where they were decisivley defeated. Once by Japan and one by the Mamalukes.
