It could be the Latvian 15th division as a part of German army group "North". After the faults at Stalingrad and Kursk Germany had not enough strength to fight against Russians. Despite of that one German soldier was equal with 20 Russian soldiers.

Sure. Like for all military operations, anytime, throughout history, there's the "What If".

We're fine . Latvia is independent. That's a happy enough ending for now.

Must have been satisfying for these Latvians to kick Soviet ass and help remove the stench that entered Riga in the form of the Red Army. Turn around is fair play, sick and tired of Stalins treachery getting watered down or altogether denied. There's a good reason Soviet legacy is martial in character; attack and agitation are the laurels neoStalinists rest upon. Little else of positive memory remain.
