Banned Verizon Sale Commercial

This was the ad that Verizon pulled from broadcast after the tragedy in New York City where a crowd stampeeded at a Walmart black friday sale killing one of the store workers. There were three variations of the ad ( shown here ) where two women were talking about going to a sale. One asks the other what happens if only one phone is left and the other says "I get it". In the original commercial the first woman shoots the second with a tranquelizer dart, the second commercial she is handcuffed to the chair, and the third she is glued to the chair. The suggestion is that the second woman was prepared to harm her friend in order to get the sales item first. It was thought this commercial would be in bad taste after the New York tragedy.

correct me if i'm wrong, but how can they have "pulled" this commercial when the new york thing happened on black friday? wouldn't they have stopped showing it after the black friday sale anyways? it wouldn't make much sense to advertise for a sale that has already happened.

I fail to see the connection between this commercial and the WalMart tragedy on Black Friday. But I don't work in marketing and I know those folks think in bizarre ways - I guess they chose the safe route!

I remember seeing the version with the blow dart atleast twice, and I thought that after when the second woman (the one that was shot with a dart) was starting to get up from the floor the first one shoots her again.
