....I suggest practicing your scissoring...only your thumb should be moving and you should be standing to the side of your dog so you can actually see what you are cutting. Eyes should always be following where you are scissoring..there should be no disconnection/pulling up with your shears....do that and you won't need snap-on combs and you'll be done ALOT faster....not to mention you get a much softer look when you scissor....

Thanks! Ive watched this entire video. Its has helped me understand how to do a few things that I couldnt get out of just reading my "groomers handbook". Thanks for taking the time to share.

@dmray67 Hey, as far as I know when I have went to competitions they do not do the blended hips anymore, you have to do angulation and stuff.

I have a new standard poodle and am trying to learn to groom her myself. This video was a BIG help! Does the Stazko scissoring spray dry right away? My 1st attempt at clippering w/combs came out choppy due to static. Though brushed & combed thoroughly, the plastic combs kept catching in her hair.

to all the haters ,it doesn't matter how you get there as long as you do a great job in the end, weather you use a snap on or hand scissor

You are wondrous...I have a parti that looks just like yours, but with a bad haircut!
Thanks for the video!
Best,

Do you breed poodles exactly like her. I mean color wise she would be the perfect dog for me!

i agree just scissor it ..tick tock the client is waiting
How long have you been grooming? It seems newer groomers (10 years or less) like to use the clip on combs because they think it's a short cut. Why not just scissor? To me, it takes less time to hand scissor than to skim/cut with a snap on comb, then have to go back over the same area with scissors. Plus, that hip is way to square for me. I like a more natural, blended hip. I'm not trying to be mean. If your client likes that style hip, then by all means, keep doing it.

The combs aren't used as a complete shortcut, they are to set length only. Even in the grooming competition ring, combs are used to set a length, mainly in Entry and Intermediate divisions but I still see it from time to time in Open division. Besides, this video isn't for advanced groomers. It was made to help out poodle owners that have a poodle they would like to groom at home and a video was requested to show how to get the rear angulation on a poodle, that's why it was made.

Very informative ! My poodle mix dislikes having her tail handled, any tips for getting her to stand up.She sits so I got to hold her up with one hand and work with the other.

I would suggest laying your dog on it's side and doing a massage for about 15 minutes per day... rubbing your hands ALL over the dog, she won't be able to sit and it should work to desensitize her about being touched. I would work around the rear and back legs alot. Also, work with her standing, not always during grooming either... just stand her, pet/rub lightly around rear area and treat if she stays up... she should do great. Alot of dogs at my shop used to be that way.. not anymore.
