Alastair Ong, CEO/Co-Founder, GreenSoul Shoes

Alastair, trained as an attorney, is a serial entrepreneur and co-founder of GreenSoul Shoes, a social enterprise whose mission it is to shoe underprivileged children around the world in an eco-beneficial way. They do this by working with local artisans and manufacturers in developing nations to produce 100% recycled sandals and for each one sold, he donates one back to the community that made them. His goal is to shoe 1 million children in five years.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDx42ndStreet, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDx42ndStreet event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

This independent TEDx event is operated under license from TED - http://www.ted.com/tedx
