Forgot to add that in the EU carriers are required to unlock the phones they supply for a nominal admin fee. Most charge about £15/$20. You can also just buy the phone from Apple SIM free and do what you want with it.

His phone is unlocked. As is mine, in fact all iPhones are unlocked when you buy them. The first connection to iTunes to activate the handset will set the carrier lock as required.

a good friend tells me....Putting an antenna outside on the side like iphone 4 has, is not an intelligent design. The moment its comes in contact with your skin, it "grounds" !! Hence you see the issue.
Infact there is nothing innovative about this design. It has been thought by others too and have been rejected due to grounding issues.

@scottwilkins bumpers look terrible. Seriously, the phone is beautiful - why do I have to mount some stupid piece of plastic on it to make a phone call? iPhone 4 is no longer a phone in my opinion. Just one cool gadget. They should drop the 'phone' in the name, like they did with iOS4 -> i4

If the humidity is low you will not get this problem as human skin becomes a poor conductor in low humidity. It is impossible to fix this problem with software, it is a physical property of the antenna. It was a terrible design choice to expose them at all.

iCRAP would sound better....Jobs needs to take a big crap and people will buy it.

how does it say cingular ?
APPLE is telling the people how they should hold the phone to avoid signal problems. If APPLE tell them to stick the iphone up their ass to improve signal, people would do it.

I say Apple should give all iPhone 4 owners free Bumpers.
