Part I of a short film on the great, great House of Guitars in Rochester, NY. Includes a brief tour of the store, as well as interviews with customers, employees, and Bruce Schaurbroeck. Produced for the Music Business program at Nazareth College of Rochester by Eric Stevens, Rachael Young, Chuck Rogers, and Craig Kemp.

  • Didn't have time to mention that in the early days they used to classify the LPs by record label! But the new, hot releases were in that circular thing in the front. Nice vid but where is Armand?

(Who made some great records himself.)

And where is the legendary Mr. Tomato?

(Star of some of the best HOG commercials.)

  • We were on a tight schedule, and most of this was done on a day he wasn't in.

  • I grew up in Rochester. I took my 15 there last summer. He's a guitar player ansd his feet barely touched the ground. He couldn't speak for a few minutes just looking at ALL THE STUFF! Went home and told his band all about it.

    Love the HOG!!!

  • If ever a building or store captured the spirit of rock and roll, it is the truly great House of Guitars in Rochester, NY. I grew up in Canandaigua and whenever we could, my buddies and I would make the 45-minute pilgrimage to what to us was rock and roll nirvana. Great atmosphere, prices and people. The best selection of instruments and records I've ever seen. Classic avant-garde TV commercials. Members of the great Chesterfield Kings worked here!

It's the best music store to this day.
