Roland Sp-555 Compatible Compact Flash Card was not so easy to find. After speaking with the group of regular Tips n Tricks guys at the sp-forum, i have found a few cards that work just right!

I promise to update you if I run into any issues with any of the Compact Flash card brands

UPDATE: I was asked for the link where I bought the Last 2 cards:

  • @kiofnc Oh Thats great! You will love it.

  • Have you udated your SP-555 to the new [Version 1.04]

    [IMPROVEMENT]

•Improved the compatibility with some Compact Flash cards.

If not, you really need to check out this link... If you need help updating, let me know and I will be glad to help out...

  • @airwax22 Thank you for the Info! I have flashed the new firmware and one of the 2gb flash cards from before is working now. I had the format on my PC first though, Jury is still out on how stable the card will be since its so new.

But Kudos to Roland for the update. Contrary to some of the forum posts I have read across a few different places, seems Roland has not forgotten the SP-555 users.

  • do not buy lexar they have zero compatibility :(

  • @MegaFuzzynuts Thank you for letting us know.

  • No problem @KWHCoaster that last firmware update should have fixed the issues with most cards.. Yeah, it's getting to where you'd pay more for a 2gb card than a 4+gb card. Find some cheapos stock up. Transcend TS2GCF133 (133x)..bought 3 on Amazon for $27+free super saver shipping. I have 6 cards total for 12gb.

  • @UnsFor Thanks for the tip. I had to do some hunting for any CF cards under 4GB and luckily I stumbled across some of the SanDisk Ultra 15MB/s 2GB cards (SDCFH-002G-U46).

They worked, but only after I updated the firmware to v1.04. They would _not_ work with firmware v1.03, the SP-555 would just freeze on start up.

I've sampled to all of the banks and used the Wave Converter to import/export WAVs. Everything seems okay and hope it stays that way. Fingers crossed.

  • @jeffkako I understand what you mean; Luckily I only have 1. I also have 2 of the Ultra II which have never given me an issue. I will have to go back to the one you are talking about and see if it does the same as yours. But I am sure if it happens on all 3, then that settles that.

  • @MegaFuzzynuts I wasn't aware of it until 2 months ago. The update files in the zip have the date of 12-01-2010. The PDF readme file has the date of 02-17-2011. The last time I was at the Roland site for drivers prior to discovery was probably Aug 2k10 with last computer upgrade.

  • @UnsFor i didn't know that thanks for letting us know, when was the update ?

  • The original SanDisk Ultra 15MB/s 2GB cards work fine as well, but thanks for sharing that the Ultra II cards work.

  • @MegaFuzzynuts the Lexar Professional CompactFlash 80x 2GB worked for me always before the updated support, so that's at least 1% compatibility.
