Mark Hollis Track 3

Feel my skin Lord
Feel my luck tumbling down
Left no life no more

Turn my seasons turn
Lived in much younger times
Left no life no more
For me to shine

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"But speech is in its origins a set of social gestures, and a man who turns his back upon his fellows severs himself from the wellsprings of language. Silences puncture his speech. He grows inarticulate. What kind of sentence is that upon a poet? Perhaps the best kind. A man who turns his back upon his fellows severs himself from the wellsprings of eloquence, but not from the sources of meaning." --- Robert Bringhurst, Pieces of map, pieces of music

  • One of the most extraordinary tracks ever written. Listening to this, I somehow feel that it has nothing to do with this world. Somehow the ending - with that fantastically effortless descent of the clarinets - sounds like he is boarding the spaceship into nirvana.

  • Reduction at its best
