@risteard01 In essence, yes. Within marxist theory there is no middle-class. Though there is reference to the 'ruling class', which is the bourgeoisie. The ruling class is said to be of people from an upper-class background, but I suppose you could draw similarites between both, as Paravese describes a typical bourgeois as being the "Middle class, middle man, incapable of great virtue or great vice".

This is silly both as politics and sociology, but it was entertaining
useless for teaching in sociology or politics...... the middle class are not the bourgoisie in marxist theory, oh dear......

britannica online says: "bourgeoisie is the social order that is dominated by the so-called middle class"
wikipedia says: "In contemporary usage the term is synonymous with middle-class"
answers.com says: "The middle class. In Marxist theory, the social group opposed to the proletariat in the class struggle."
