3-finger picking arrangement of Namaste Saraswati on Gold Tone Banjola, a wooden 5-string banjo.

All Gold Tone musical instruments are available for purchase from my website http://www.banjocrazy.com/ . Im happy to consult in finding the right instrument.

This video is part of a series Im posting. Dojo Banjola features two distinctly different instruments made by Gold Tone. Theyre different instruments in all but one important respect: they both have 5-string banjo necks. The beautiful tonal spectrum that the Dojo and the Banjola provide, offers an expanded richness to the palette of banjo voices. There are many musical applications where each can be of great benefit, both in recording and performing.

The Dojo and the Banjola are banjos in the sense of how theyre played but apples and oranges in terms of sound. The Dojos body (sound chamber) is a resonator guitar. The Banjola has a wooden, mandola-style body. Neither instrument has much to do with those things with drumheads on them, except for fact that their setup as 5-string banjos; a big plus for 5-string players who might want to expand their palette, on an entirely different instrument, keeping their technique in tact.

The reason I had a few days to play the Dojo and the Banjola was that a friend of mine - Richard Fiske - loaned them to me while he was at a festival in Telluride. Thanks very much, Richard! Up to this point the main Gold Tone instruments I had focused my independent promo campaign on, were their 4 and 5-string Cello Banjos, the Bob Carlin models and the Irish tenor.

Knowing I had only a short time to visit with these distinguished guests, I had to quickly figure out what I felt like playing on each and start rolling videotape! I hope the series is of interest to you. If you want to see my other banjo videos you can access them on my YouTube channel page: http://www.youtube.com/user/strumstering

Im an independent promoter and dealer, working over the Internet from a remote mountain village in Colorado. Please check out my website http://www.banjocrazy.com/ to see all Gold Tone instruments, and to check out my interviews with great banjo players like Marcy Marxer, Adam Hurt, Cathy Fink, Gordon Johnston, Bob Carlin, Cathy Moore and others.

Cheers,
PauL
