CORPUS CHRISTI - A death row survivor is just one of several keynote speakers at this weekend's State Democratic Party Convention.
Juan Melendez talked about what it was like to be sentenced to death for a crime he didn't commit, and then spend 17 years on death row.
In 2002, Melendez was exonerated and freed after a taped confession from the real killer came to light.
He now travels around the country giving lectures about the need to suspend the death penalty.
Melendez says, " You can always release an innocent from prison. But you can not release an innocent man from the grave."
