Interesting!
-
How could he write music about the death, hell (L'Enfer), funerals without despair, but with humbleness, while his symphony, scherzo, concerto and preludes that are intended to sound pathetically and joyfully in fact are driven by madness and extreme loneliness and desolation?
Incredible. Liszt was justified in being nervous in Alkan's presence!

the theme is "Dies Ireae" - a latin hymn. SO, he did "steal" it. w/e, still sounds nice!
-
this was dedicated to liszt so I´d think liszt stole it :P
But no one stole it, this comes from dies irae, both tontentanz and morte
-
They're both based on the chant Dies Irae. Look it up and listen.

Why, how uplifting.

They say you learn something new everyday, and today I did.
Thanks for correcting me.

well maybe alkan stole the theme, but who knows....
The dies irae theme is a common chant I believe. No one stole it, lots of composers use it.

@frankcp5 Dies Irae is a commonsong, a traditional holy piece that was sung in gregorian chant. The theme doesn't truly belong to anyone.
