2012 Camaro ZL1 laps Nürburgring in 7:41:27

GM's North American president, Mark Reuss, has confirmed a Nürburgring-Nordschleife lap time of 7 minutes and 41.27 seconds for the 2012 Camaro ZL1.

That time on the full-length, 20.832 km (12.944 miles), of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit beats out such track performers as the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the BMW M3 GTS - putting the ZL1 in solid supercar territory. (Most lap times are measured on the 20.6 km stretch of the track, stopping 200 meters short of the end.)

The test, though, was conducted by GM and not independently. The time was set by GM's own test driver Aaron Link.

thumbs up, that was a really intense lap. I've been to the ring several times and its no joke (you make a mistake=you crash) it happens everyday over there.

GM got the suspension and power balanced this year over the GT500. Meaning faster lap times for the ZL1, at the drag though the GT500 will win by car lengths. Maybe Ford will step up with suspension and engine technology next year. We will see.

There's no real career in racing. In fact, more often than not you'll actually be paying to race. as well as playing for your own car, your own safety equipment, etc etc

I mean I don't want to discourage you or anything, but there's 2 kinds of professional racecar drivers, ones that were born into an extremely rich family, and their fathers paved their way for them (see lewis hamilton), and then there's the 1 in a million ridiculously talented drivers (see kimi raikkonen) that were very lucky.

Rumor is the next year model for Mustangs they will have IRS.

That should help their handling problems, and hopefully they will sort out the brakes as well. Single calipers on the rear of the GT500? Come on.
